(This is envisioned as a national apostolate to help Catholics make genuine friends, grow in faith together, and make the process of finding a spouse far more fun and fruitful.)

Each participant should bring a one-minute summary of feedback, ideas, or recommendations on this document.

Purpose

Catholic Roman Life and the MatchMaker App is a movement/apostolate—and potentially an app—for single Catholics discerning the vocation of marriage. (Better name ideas are welcome.)

But this isn’t only about finding a spouse. It’s about building deep friendships within one of 12 national Catholic Tribes—groups with whom members will plan adventures, meet people, pray, and serve together.

More than friendship — we want to restore brotherhood and sisterhood to parish life and make local Catholic churches vibrant, joyful communities where single Catholics belong, thrive, and grow in holiness.

Distinctive Activities

Annual Singles Mass – held once per year in every diocese in the U.S., focused on recruiting people into one of the 12 Catholic Tribes.
Catholic Group Dinner Nights – matching groups of 6 men and 6 women with high compatibility for fun, faith-filled, intimate evenings around the country.

Organizational Structure

A national council for Roman Life
- Practicality: Can start off as a “Founders” WhatsApp Group, hosted by Marco.
12 national tribes (6 for men and 6 for women), each with its own style of community where people would feel most at home.
- Each of the 12 tribes would have 4 chapters that further group people into age groups (explained below).
- Practical benchmarks: we can start off with 2–3 founders/brand ambassadors for each tribe, as part of the Founders WhatsApp group, and add them as they help recruit more. When 12 people of a tribe are reached, a Tribe-specific WhatsApp group is opened for them. When 12 people of a specific chapter of that tribe are reached, a specific WhatsApp group is opened for them.
- Sustainability point: would need at least 12 people per chapter, per tribe, on a WhatsApp group, willing to put in 1–2 hours a week of digital recruitment effort/planning, including 2–3 “brand ambassadors” with a decent online presence (even a small one, but putting out consistent content), who truly represent the tribe’s personality/style/charism. That’s 12 tribes, 4 chapters each, 12 people per chapter = 288 men and 288 women.
For a tribe to open a local (diocese-level) chapter, there must be at least 12 people of one chapter reached at that diocese level. Otherwise, all “recruits” join their digital, national tribes, and focus on national activities—though some may be invited to local “Catholic Group Dinner Nights” if at least 6 candidates are found within one diocese.

Long term Structures:

(if this project doesn’t grow, we’ll just keep a fun WhatsApp group for a couple months and maybe organize some fun stuff during 2026. BUT, if it grows, we would follow the following structure):

National Council for Roman Life (NCRL) (Better name ideas welcome.)

Meets digitally (via WhatsApp group and monthly Zoom meeting).
Composed of national leaders from each of the 12 tribes + NCRL staff.
Oversees apostolate growth and coordinates diocesan requests.
Organizes annual national events and inter-tribe collaborations.
(If growth allows, a national campus could eventually be developed in a destination city.)
Practical note: this work can do great by itself, as a WhatsApp group/monthly zoom club, without local structures, or even tribes, if we get a group of 20-30 small, medium sized or large content creators (or people with reach in the social media space) that can help create visibility for the project.

Local Diocesan Councils

Meet both digitally and in person.
Oversee local chapters, rush events, and diocesan service projects.
Would be organized once there are enough members in a diocese to form at least 4 tribes.

The Twelve Tribes

(Final names will be chosen collaboratively by early adopters this November.)

Each tribe will represent a unique Catholic personality or charisma, initially modeled on well-known Catholic content creators and their communities.

Each tribe will have:

National Leadership Committee (digital)
- Runs tribe social media.
- Hosts yearly national gatherings and digital events.
- Oversees diocesan committees.
Local Diocesan Leadership Committee (in person)
Rituals & Prayers – includes a shared Roman Life pledge and tribe-specific devotions (to be written in December).
Regular Activities – weekly/monthly prayer and social events.
Yearly Destination Retreat or Convention.

Chapters by Age Band

(Everyone chooses one chapter to apply to, but may participate in a secondary chapter as guests, on certain activities that are open to honorary members, if they meet the age criteria for another group as well):

Newbies: 21–29
Builders: 26–39
Masters: 32–49
Mentors: 38–59

Membership Process

Eligibility

Baptized and Confirmed practicing Catholic.
Attends Mass ≥3 times/month and Confession ≥1×/year.

Steps

Submit a formal membership application during Rush Month.
Receive a Bid from a local chapter.
Complete a 6-month pledge period.
Be approved by a 2⁄3 vote of the local chapter.
→ Full national membership granted.

Transfers / Honorary Membership

May join a new primary chapter when entering a higher age band (must join that year’s pledge class and be re-approved).
Honorary status may be granted if:
- Living or traveling in a diocese without chapters.
- Within ±2 years of the age range (by popular vote).
- Married, ordained, or in formation after prior service.
- Protestant friends with a track record of contributing positively to the chapter.

Discipline

Members may be expelled by 2⁄3 vote for persistent behavior contrary to Catholic virtue or fellowship.

Rush Month

In-person (by diocese) + digital track (TBD)
Kickoff Mass: all existing and prospective members gather at a host parish.
Month-long events: sports tournaments, dances, lectures, parties, prayer nights, and service projects.

Regular Events & Activities

Weekly Prayer Dynamics – tribe-specific or inter-tribe.
Weekly Social Events – sports, happy hours, theology nights, game nights, etc.
Monthly National Digital Events – per tribe.
Apostolates: each tribe will maintain one national and one local apostolate.
Mentorship: every chapter assigns mentors from the next-older generation.

Individual events would be assigned varying costs too, for fundraising purposes. Eventually, if this grows, there would have to be a formal hiring structure, for staff and leadership, along the lines of a non-profit. Individual creators and brand ambassadors SHOULD be incentivized to explore business opportunities and collaborations with their tribes though, in ways that incentivize partnerships and support for Catholic content creators.
